WHAT IT IS

The Northern Inline Skaters’ (NIS) Cup is a chance for club members to participate in some friendly competition. Participants earn points for finishing a race and for how they place. Points can also increase in value as a participant completes successive races.

All club members are automatically entered in the NIS Cup. NIS Cup categories are Male and Female. Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners after the end of the season.

HOW IT WORKS

The races selected for the NIS Cup are generally in the upper Midwest. However, any inline event is open as long as the following conditions are met.

1.       Complete race results shall be posted on the event’s website or the website of the business or organization that performs the timing.

2.       If you compete in an event other than the seven local events, you must notify the **NIS Cup coordinator of your participation and provide the event’s “Results” web page address.

3.       The date of the event must be between June 1st, 2006 and September 30th, 2006.

Note: For events that have a marathon and a half-marathon, you will skate against only those NIS club members that are in your chosen distance.

The scoring works like this:

“Place Points” - Your points will be earned relative to other NIS club members only. That is, you don’t need to place 1st, 2nd, 3rd and etc. overall in the particular event to earn points. You need only place 1st, 2nd, 3rd and etc. relative to other NIS club members.

Example: Say there are 7 female NIS members skating in the Brainerd Online Inline. If you finish before any other female club member, you receive 7 points.  If you finish second of all female club members, you will receive 6 points; if you finish third, you will receive 5 points and so on. At the next event, there are 4 female NIS members skating. If you finish first of those 4 female club members, you receive 4 points. If you finish second of all female club members, you will receive 3 points and so on.

“PAS Points” (PAS = participation and successive) – For completing a race a participant earns 10 points. For each successive race completed a participant earns an additional 5 points. If a participant skips a race then the successive race points starts over at the bottom of the scale.

Example: Joe finishes race 1 and earns 10 PAS points. He finishes race 2 and earns 10 participation points plus 5 successive points. At this point Joe has 25 total PAS points. Unfortunately, Joe misses race number 3, so no points. He finishes race 4 and earns 10 participation points but zero successive points. His PAS points total is now 35. He finishes race 5 and earns 10 participation points and 5 successive points for a total of 50 PAS points.
